The third edition of the Cheltenham Bach Choir’s Spring Festival will take place in Cheltenham and Cirencester from 29-31 March.
The highlight of this year’s festival will be a performance of Bach’s St John Passion, to be given in Cirencester Parish Church by the Cheltenham Bach Choir and the Musical and Amicable Society Baroque Orchestra. The part of the evangelist will be sung by tenor James Gilchrist, and Jesus by baritone Matthew Durkan.
Other highlights include a harpsichord recital by Satoko Doi-Luck, and a programme of Bach cantatas sung by the Cheltenham Bach Choir.
The choir’s music director David Crown said: ‘We have lined up some outstanding performers for this year’s festival. Audiences at each of the concerts will hear stars making Baroque music, whether it’s James Gilchrist in the wonderful sound world of the St John Passion, or Satoko Doi-Luck in the intimacy of a harpsichord recital.
‘Make sure not to miss up-and-coming mezzo Felicity Turner singing Bach on the Sunday afternoon. Altogether it should prove a most rewarding three days for lovers of Baroque music in Gloucestershire!’
Tickets for the festival cost £36 (£18 for students and children).
