Blackdowns Early Music Project bring to light the opulent choral music of Rosenmüller and Schelle in the stunning surroundings of Exeter Cathedral. Both were familiar to early C17th Leipzig as highly accomplished musicians and composers and both, in their time, were well known throughout Europe, better even than JS Bach who worked in Leipzig a generation later.
In this concert, the BEMP choir working under their principal director JanJoost van Elburg will present Rosenmüller’s Magnificat and Dixit Dominus together with three works by Schelle: Komm, Jesu, komm, Lobe den Herrn and Vom Himmel Kam der Engel schar. Accompanying the choir will be a veritable ‘who’s who’ of internationally renowned early music specialists, including the Monteverdi String Band, the English Cornett & Sackbut Ensemble, trumpets, timpani, full bass continuo, together with eight soloists from the country’s top vocal ensembles such as the Tallis Scholars, the Sixteen, Gabrieli Consort, Orlando Consort, Tenebrae, Stile Antico etc…..
Tickets £12 – £28 from Exeter Cathedral Box Office 01392 285953 and online.
