The Lachrimae Consort
Music and songs from the time of Shakespeare for viols, lute, cittern and bandora and voice, together with extracts from the plays.
Music was very important to the Bard and his plays are full of texts of songs and references to instruments and singing. The six musicians of Lachrimae are all expert in playing instruments and music of Shakespeare’s time. They recreate the sound of Elizabethan theatre music and perform some of the beautiful songs used in the first performances over 400 years ago. For this special programme they are joined by two actors to provide the words around the music.
There are excerpts and songs from Henry V, Twelfth Night, As You Like It, The Merchant of Venice, Cymbeline, Hamlet, The Tempest, The Taming of The Shrew and more.
