As well as L’Orfeo on 9 July with I Fagiolini, Cheltenham Music Festival is presenting perhaps Monteverdi’s most familiar work, his 1610 Vespers, with the Academy of Ancient Music and soloists including soprano Rowan Pierce and tenor Gwilym Bowen (from the musical family which includes his father Geraint, organist at Hereford Cathedral, uncle Meurig, director of the Cheltenham Music Festival, and brother Ruairi, another young singer to look out for!).
