Barbara trained as a teacher and worked for most of her career in Primary Education, eventually serving as a headteacher in Reading and then in Worcester, before taking early retirement. She has been involved with Worcestershire Early Music from its beginning, delivering workshops and organising concerts and the Pride and Prejudice Ball. Barbara is an enthusiastic amateur musician, playing regularly in many different formal and informal gatherings. She performs with the Lachrimae Consort on flute and recorder

WEM Festival this weekend!

We’re all very much looking forward to the Worcester Early Music Festival this weekend. There’s really something for everyone – from Fontanella’s family concert on Saturday, 3pm, to the early music/folk mix of the Emily Askew Band on Sunday afternoon. We are honoured and delighted to be welcoming the wonderful Dame Emma Kirkby with Dowland Works on Saturday evening. The whole thing kicks off with some classic trio sonatas by JS Bach, Telemann and Janitsch from the Musical & Amicable Society with oboist Mark Baigent on Friday evening at Worcester Guildhall. Baroquathon 2019

Our third Baroquathon took place on Monday 6th May and was another roaring success with some 40 participants; there were 12 ensembles, 6 solos, 6 duos, as well as group singing and recorder playing.

A variety of compositions from before 1850 were performed on viols, sackbut, recorders, flutes, French horn, oboe, saxophone, bassoon, violin, viola, accordion, concertina, guitar and wind synthesiser.

We collected over £200 which will be shared between the Elgar School and Worcestershire Early Music to help fund outreach projects offered by both organisations.

Worcestershire Early Music is grateful to the Elgar School of Music for its support, and we look forward to future collaborations, including Baroquathon 4 in 2020.

Friends of Worcestershire Early Music

We have a growing group of Friends who are generous in their donations to Worcestershire Early Music. We are always happy to have more Friends, to help us achieve our aim to spread the the understanding and enjoyment of music written before 1800, to a broad audience via concerts and outreach work. You can become a Friend of Worcestershire Early Music by making an annual minimum donation of just £20. Friends are invited to an annual Thank You event, usually during our annual Festival.
